BUSINESS OBJECTIVE

At Bow Valley College (BVC), students typically learn how to perform examinations on fellow students, who are usually healthy. As such, they’re unlikely to encounter any abnormal conditions. This often results in students who feel less confident or competent when they start their clinical practice. To bridge this gap, BVC decided to build a specialized program that would expose students to various conditions prior to their clinical placements.

LEARNING SOLUTION

BVC partnered with ICOM to produce a virtual reality assessment tool for learners in the College’s Practical Nurse Diploma program to identify a variety of respiratory, cardiovascular, and other conditions. Upon entering the virtual environment, learners use hand controllers to conduct a focused physical examination of a patient. The technology provides a realistic visual environment, reinforced with audio cues and vibrations on discrete locations common to specific conditions.

By training learners for the clinical setting through virtual reality, we can give them an immersive patient experience that initiates soft skills and develops empathy. Learners develop proficiency through environmental cues, such as vital signs, observations of the patient’s speech, and symptom assessment. The system also gives educators an authentic and objective form of student assessment. It uses a rubric to track thousands of data points in each learner’s assessment. It then collates the data into a meaningful learning measure.

LEARNING SOLUTION

The Pontefract Group needed a place where it could create and deliver action-oriented, value-added offerings, and ICOM’s innovative Breaze platform provided the perfect solution. Working closely with Dan, ICOM’s team harnessed the power of the cloud-based platform to produce a comprehensive leadership program based on Dan’s book LEAD. CARE. WIN.

The learning program consists of nine self-paced leadership courses packed with up to 60 minutes of core content and an additional 60 minutes of bonus content, including loads of knowledge checks, downloadable job aids, videos, exercises, assessments, and activities. In addition, simple yet robust digital dashboards help demonstrate ROI by tracking and reporting on learner progress.

Through the eCommerce feature on Breaze, learners can access free online materials that complement Dan’s book, purchase entire courses individually, or buy the complete program. Third-party businesses can also tailor the program to meet their unique needs then download it to a SCORM package for distribution on their own learning management system (LMS).

LEARNING SOLUTION

YW partnered with ICOM to develop a skill-building training program that helps improve the psychological safety in the workplace and enables employees to lead their best lives at work and at home. The Mindfulicity program is made up of fun, engaging online courses for employees at all levels, from front-line workers to the C-suite. Each 15-minute interactive e-learning experience can be accessed anytime, anywhere from any device.

This brain-based program challenges employees to build or reinforce skills that allow them to better regulate their emotions, foster healthy interpersonal relationships, and promote personal accountability and responsibility for their relationships. ICOM used a variety of development tools to bring the program to life, including animations, motion graphics, and our proprietary Breaze platform. Each SCORM-compliant module includes a host of interactive quizzes, videos, and activities to help make the learning stick. They can be exported for delivery on any learning management system (LMS).
